If you lived to see and enjoy the PlayStation One era of gaming, you probably remember the early days of Tony Hawk. Back before it became an abused franchise with tired mechanics and silly peripherals, it was a game that dominated whole summers at a time. We loved this thing, and now it’s coming back with HD stylings and updated content.
If I’m being brutally honest here, the one thing that’s giving me pause on firing up my console and snagging the game is Robomodo. Not to disrespect the dev studio, but their previous efforts in the Tony Hawk brand have been, well, lackluster. Ride and Shred were downright bad.
I have hope for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, and I’ll check it out. I’m just not convinced Robomodo will nail both the game design and mechanics as perfectly as I remember them being. Whether that’s a fault of nostalgia or development, I don’t know.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is currently available for the Xbox LIVE Arcade. It will launch for the PC and PlayStation 3 platforms later this year.
