Borderlands 2 would be “Fantastic” on Wii U, says Gearbox Co-founder

Currently, Borderlands 2 is being released on three separate platforms: the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Gearbox, the studio behind the wasteland that is Pandora, is also working on Aliens: Colonial Marines. Aliens will launch for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. If you missed the gap, that means Borderlands 2 is not currently bound for Nintendo’s upcoming console.

However, that doesn’t mean the folks at Gearbox aren’t interested in bringing the next batch of 20 gazillion guns to the Wii U. In fact, they like the system and would love to see Borderlands 2 available for it. Here’s Gearbox Co-founder while speaking with Dealspwn:

“We really like the Wii U, I think it’s a really cool platform…So we’re really excited to bring Aliens: Colonial Marines to it. And we’re going to do a wait and see approach, our publisher 2K is going to see whether they’re going to go with that.

…But if Borderlands 2 was on the Wii U, the thing I would be most excited about is inventory management: it would be amazing on that, it would just be fantastic. And I think the artwork would look really good, with the way they can deal with the resolutions and textures, I think it’s a really good console.”

Martel’s comment is good news for future Wii U owners for a few reasons. First, it means that some developers are genuinely excited about the questionable GamePad tech that Nintendo’s newest will bring to the table. Second, Martel specifically points out that the “artwork would look really good,” which is a great nod for the machine’s power. Third, if developers “like” the Wii U, that means they want to work on it.

All of those are good signs. They don’t necessarily mean that the Wii U will be a slam dunk, but they’re good signs.
