Back in 2008, EA was a different company than they are now. Well, perhaps, they were perceived differently. It was then that the publishing/developing giant was taking time to focus on brand new IPs. Among them were Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge and Spore. The company’s future was looking bright and original.
Fast-forward to today, and you’ll find that the perception of EA is not nearly as nice as it was four years ago. They’ve focused on sequels, hammered gamers with poor DLC , placed far too much emphasis on Origin, suffered PR debacles like the reaction to Mass Effect 3 and watched their stock fall. They’ve become, quite frankly, the new Activision.
While a return to grace does not seem imminent, one decision that would certainly help the company in the eyes of gamers would be to bring back a risky franchise with Mirror’s Edge 2. The sequel has been hinted at and rumored between resumes, forums and blog posts. Gamers want it.
Now, Frank Gibeau, EA Labels boss, is quoted in the latest issue of Game Informer as saying that EA wants to bring more life to Faith and her free running exploits.
“We have nothing to announce [regarding Mirror’s Edge 2]…We love Faith. We love the property. It’s really about how and when do you bring it back?…It’s on the list. It’s just about looking at what teams are available, who’s got the right quality approach to it, and who understands it.”
“On the list” isn’t nearly as promising as “confirmed,” but we’ll take it. Would you like to see another entry in the Mirror’s Edge line from EA, or would you rather the company leave the property alone and move on to something else?
