Yesterday we reported that Rovio’s smash hit, Angry Birds, is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo 3DS later this year. But the game will be expanding its reach before then by making its way to Samsung Smart TVs this month.
I said in yesterday’s article that the game’s debut on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 would be “the first time Angry Birds has graced HDTVs.” But it would appear I was wrong (“and not for the first time!” I hear you scream). Instead, it will arrive on Samsung Smart TVs first, bringing with it gesture-based controls that allow you to play by waving your hands in front of the TV.
Samsung’s new partnership with Rovio also extends to content, according to The Next Web, and so the Korean company’s Smart TVs will also gain access to the Angry Birds animated shorts. The game will rollout simultaneously around the world to Samsung’s ooo/8000/9000 series sets to ensure that everyone gets access to it at the same time.
Now I’m left wondering where Angry Birds will pop up next. It’s quite incredible that there’s still so much interest in the title more than two years after it made its debut on iOS, especially when you consider that the game hasn’t changed a whole lot in that time. Sure, Rovio has added new levels and spiced things up a little with frequent updates, but on the whole, the game is largely the same.
Will the phenomenon that is Angry Birds ever end?
