Office Depot Reportedly Ordered to Hold Nexus 7 Sales Until Further Notice

by Mark Hearn | July 11, 2012July 11, 2012 5:45 pm PST

It’s no secret that Office Depot will be selling the Nexus 7 sooner than later, but it appears the retailer may be pumping its brakes on the release date. A purported internal Office Depot document instructs stores to hold all Nexus 7 shipments in lock up until further notice. The memo goes on to further advise Office Depot employees not to sell or display the Nexus 7.

Office Depot never publicly announced a release date for the Nexus 7, perhaps the retailer is waiting on instructions from Google. Currently Google’s Play Store lists the Nexus 7 as shipping in “1 – 2 weeks.” Office Depot and other retailers carrying the tablet could be attempting to stock up for a uniformed release with Google.

What have we learned? The Nexus 7 most likely isn’t launching until next week or later and it’s best to just wait for an official announcement from Google before getting your hopes too high.
