Now here’s a news story four years in the making! Hideo Kojima has finally given in to fan pleading and confirmed to Famitsu that trophy support is on the way for his 2008 hit Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Even after killing the game’s online multiplayer component and creating a spin-off title, Konami is still turning to its four year old generation defining legacy to excite its fan base. Konami hasn’t exactly had a huge hit since.

This year is the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear, and Hideo also announced a celebration in downtown Tokyo on August 30th and promised a new announcement about the series.

Kojima will doubtfully say anything to re-spark the Metal Gear Solid 4 Xbox 360 port, but what else is there for the series? Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released in a few months, and we already know development for Metal Gear Solid 5 is underway. All Kojima has hinted at is that the announcement will have something to do with connecting people, and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker’s save file transfer served as a test run for the idea.

No doubt Konami will have to call Solid Snake back into action soon since the popular franchise is all Konami really has left to prop itself up on for their long time fans these days. The 25th anniversary celebration is an excellent opportunity to reignite the excitement from Metal Gear Solid 4‘s development process when Konami would annually steal the show at E3 with huge new promises.

No specific date has been given for the upcoming patch, but the game will be getting a reduced price release next month in Japan with the patch already installed.
