Twitter for iOS and Android Update Introduces Expanded Tweets, Other Additions

by Brandon Russell | July 10, 2012

twitter-logoJust as the leak foretold, Twitter on Tuesday introduced a significant update to both its iOS and Android apps, including expanded tweets (only from partner websites), individual user notifications, a new discovery tool, and search autocomplete.

Basically, and most exciting, is expanded tweets, which allows users to view stuff like images, links and videos inline. “When you tap a Tweet linking to a Kickstarter project, for example, you can play its video directly from the Tweet details view in your app,” Twitter explained. In addition, being able to set individual user notifications is a very welcome addition, as it easily keeps users up-to-date with Tweets from @TechnoBuffalo or @Jon4Lakers.

The update also introduces some smaller tweaks, like tappable avatars that go directly to a user’s profile, performance enhancements and, of course, the new Twitter bird.
