You can add July 19 to the list of possible release dates for Google’s Nexus 7 tablet.
When Google unveiled the Nexus 7 at the Google I/O conference a few weeks ago, the release date for its new 7-inch tablet – the first to run Jelly Bean – was only listed as “July.” Since that time everyone has been trying to figure out exactly when the launch will be, but there has been total silence from Google on the matter.
According to EuroDroid, Currys – a large electronics retailer in the U.K. – has begun accepting pre-orders for the 16GB version of the Nexus 7 while listing a release date of July 19. The previous reports we had seen were the Canadian arm of Staples listing it for release on July 23, so it appears that a window is forming for late next week into early the following week.
What is interesting here is that every retailer listing the tablet is only showing the 16GB version which will have a suggested retail price of $249. The 8GB version, which will sell for $199, is looking to be available only from the Google Play Store.
The Nexus 7 is definitely on its way, it’s just a question of “when?” at the moment.
