More noise is being added to the chorus of rumors surrounding Apple’s supposed “iPad mini.” According to Bloomberg, who spoke with unidentified sources familiar with the Cupertino company’s plans, the upcoming device will measure 7 — 8 inches diagonally, and go straight for the jugular of tablets like the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire. “It would be the competitors’ worst nightmare,” said Sterne Agee & Leach Inc. analyst Shaw Wu. “The ball is in Apple’s court.” Bloomberg doesn’t identify a price point, only to say it’ll be “less expensive,” but we’ve previously heard it could fall in the $250 — $300 range. In addition, Apple will allegedly not include its Retina display technology in its smaller tab to keep the cost down. If we do see a smaller iPad, it could arrive in October, as has previously been rumored.
