Drifting a 2012 Ford Focus Electric? Blasphemy!

We’ve already gotten an exclusive video tour of the 2012 Ford Focus Electric and recently Jon putted around town in the silent hatchback in New Orleans. But I wanted more. Much, much more. This week I was in Dearborn, Michigan attending Ford’s Go Further event, and what do you know? They let us take 2012 Ford Focus Electrics on a closed course rife with tasty curves. While many of the other bloggers took leisurely strolls around the track, I decided to test the limits of the Ford Focus Electric. The verdict? The Ford Focus Electric is capable of being flogged viciously around corners without any hiccups.

Yes, I was blown away by how well the Ford Focus Electric handled the erratic driving. It hugged corners very similarly to the Focus ST, and that instant torque down low was a miniature rocket boost at times. I will say that the Focus Electric’s overall power was not as impressive as I would have liked, but what do you want from an all-electric engine that outputs 143HP and 184 ft.-lbs. of torque? And the 80MPH top speed was not a factor, thanks to the tight nature of the track. The bottom line here folks: the Ford Focus Electric is more than capable of delivering balls-to-the-wall sporty handling in a highly economical package.
