Microsoft already offers speech recognition, but the company is taking it a step further by letting users essentially have a “conversation” with their favorite apps — and it will be available to Windows Phone 7.5 owners later today. Developed in partnership with Audible, the speech platform will let users launch apps — which Microsoft said Siri just learned to do — and also do stuff like play and pause audiobook files. Microsoft briefly demonstrated the feature by launching and pausing Game of Thrones just through voice commands. The new feature will be accessible to any developer that wants to build Microsoft’s new speech controls into its app, the company said, where requests can be made from the main search.
