Fans of Platinum Games will have to wait a bit longer before purchasing their next release, Anarchy Reigns. The critical darlings comprised of disgruntled ex-Capcom employees have enjoyed great press from the releases of their original IPs like Bayonetta and Vanquish; but, in spite of that, they are still struggling to find a genuine commercial hit.
It appears Platinum Games will have to keep searching after the hype for Anarchy Reigns has suffered another serious blow. Three delays have taken the game far from its original Fall 2011 release date, and SEGA, Platinum Games’ go-to publisher, has confirmed via twitter that a fourth delay will push the American release back into next year after a “re-evaluation”, not specifying a reason.
“The release of Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated. We now expect to launch in Europe and America in Q1 of 2013.”
This leaves Platinum Games in an interesting situation having their original beat-’em-up game compete with their other current project, Metal Gear Solid Revengeance (also looking at a Q1 2013 release through Konami). Is there any doubt which be the larger success in that match up?
In Japan, the game will be released as planned on July 5th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Importers should know that the Xbox 360 release will be region free, but importing “can’t be encouraged by Platinum.”
