While Microsoft’s Windows Phone continues to fight to find its own voice in a crowded mobile software space, the software giant seems to be expanding its horizons on bring its games to competing platforms. Following suit with the recent release of its My Xbox Live app for Android, Microsoft’s Kinectimals game was released on Google’s mobile platform on Thursday. This release marks a change in direction for Microsoft and is the company’s first complete standalone game to come to the Google Play Store.
Priced at $2.99 and requiring Android 2.2 or higher, this cutesy sim puts a modern-day spin on the concept of a digital pet. In addition to loading your smartphone or tablet with a zoo full of exotic critters, the game also unlocks five new cubs for the its Xbox 360 counterpart. While Kinectimals probably won’t be winning the hearts of most hardcore gamers, it’s something that you may want to grab to entertain your kids while stuck in traffic on a long car ride.
