Turn-by-Turn Navigation in iOS 6 Won’t Support iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS

iOS 6 Maps trafficApple’s upcoming turn-by-turn functionality will be limited to the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and new iPad. Sadly, not included in that list is the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Apple said on its official page that only the most current devices will get to experience the nav and Flyover goodness of Maps in iOS 6. It’s a big blow to be sure, but Apple no doubt will use this factor to encourage users to update when the iPhone 5 hits later (we assume) this fall.

Billed as one of iOS 6’s biggest features, Apple’s turn-by-turn navigation features spoken directions, 3D view and real-time traffic information thanks to the brains at TomTom. It’s also the Cupertino company’s first foray into its own mapping application since dumping Google Maps.
