Phones get hot. More specifically, processors get hot. You’ve probably even had to put your phone down — maybe after a long Angry Birds session — because the heat made it uncomfortable to hold. Qualcomm wants to prove that its Snapdragon S4 chip doesn’t get as hot as its competitor’s chips. Or: That the S4 is “the most thermally efficient processor” on the market. And the company is proving it with the help of… butter?
The chip maker ran a Dhrystone CPU-centric test over a period of 20 minutes against two other unnamed competitors by setting a block of butter on each device. As you can see from the photo above (or the video below), you don’t want your hand to melt like the middle and left butter did — nobody wants their hand melted by a smartphone. One unnamed phone, according to the video, reached 131 degrees fahrenheit. Not the S4.
“Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 is the coolest kid on the block, and we mean it literally,” Qualcomm said.
