Facebook is reportedly exploring the option of creating its own phone — that much we already know. The HTC Status had a dedicated Facebook button, but it was far from a hit. Now, designer Michal Bonikowski has crafted a slick mockup of a Facebook-centric device that looks more akin to the mobile powerhouses of today.
Coated in the company’s signature blue, this imaginary metal-body handset features a 4.2-inch display, an 8-megapixel primary camera, a 5-megapixel front facing camera and inductive charging via a dedicated “Facebook dock.” If ever there were to be an actual phone dedicated to Facebook addicts, such a concept seems like a step in the right direction. Facebook’s mobile application appears to be the preferred gateway for the bulk of its user base, so does the company need a dedicated piece of hardware?
I’d say that Facebook should focus more on its mobile and desktop software experience and leave the hardware to the professionals. If your users are receiving an optimum experience there will be no need for dedicated hardware. Why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for free?
