Back when I lived in New York, I could’ve seriously used Sedan Magic, a free app for iOS and Android devices that hails car service for New Yorkers on company business. Anyone who’s ever stood by the side of the road on Sixth Ave during rush hour (or between taxi shifts) when you’re supposed to be across town for a meeting… well, you know the horror of seeing one cab after another pass you by. But this would be a godsend for anyone who just can’t afford to be late.
The sister app to Taxi Magic (which lets users hail cabs online and from their phones nationwide), Sedan Magic is clearly geared toward business users. The service accepts mobile payments, offers pre-booking estimates (for how much that ride will cost) and sends e-receipts to the user, making those expense reports super simple to fill out. Users simply hit up the intuitive UI to request a car (up to 24 hours in advance), and the vehicle shows up when you need it most.
The only thing that would make it better are vertical thrusters that could lift the car out of the city’s traffic jams. Well, at least Sedan Magic cars pack GPS onboard, so you can tell if your ride got hung up in traffic or other road blocks.
For now, it seems to be limited to New York City, but if this takes off, other major cities will probably follow. For more, hit up the Android version here, the iOS version here, or the developer’s website.
