Apparently the Apple TV is not much of a hobby any more as it looks set to more than double its sales figures this year.

Steve Jobs was well known for saying that the Apple TV set top box was a “hobby,” but when it sold 3 million units last year, it seemed to move out of that realm.  Speaking at the AllThingsD conference this evening, Tim Cook revealed some happy sales figures this year. While playing a bit of a cat and mouse game around the questions of an Apple television set, Cook said, “This year, just in a first few months, we’ve sold 2.7 million” of the Apple TV device.

Following these numbers, it looks like Apple could sell as many as 6 million units this year. That’s a bit more than a hobby I’d say.
