Foxconn has reportedly begun accepting orders for the “trial production stage” of the long-rumored Apple Television set.

According to a report from China Business News (in Chinese), sources told the newspaper that Foxconn is indeed gearing up for its first trial production run on the Apple Television set.  This does not, however, mean you can expect to see them on store shelves for a while.  This phase is where issues are identified that could keep productions from tamping up to full speed.

This time frame actually lines up nicely with the predictions made by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster last week that the Apple Television would be announced at the end of this year and ship in early 2013.  It’s also intriguing to note that the head of Foxconn recently said that the Apple Television production would begin soon, even if he did retract the statement three days later.

We’ll bring you more information as we hear it.
