If you’re a fan of Windows Phone, odds are you’ve got your ear to the ground listening for rumbles of Windows Phone 8 Apollo. However, while you’re waiting, how about a little mood music in the form of an unannounced handset from Nokia? A mysterious device carrying the handle “Nokia Phi” has showed up in Windows Phone benchmarking app WP Bench. In addition to the possible outing of a new phone from Nokia, the app’s results also document that the device is¬†running Windows Phone OS 8.0.9698.0, which simplifies to Windows Phone 8.

Sure, it’s possible to spoof a device’s name for a benchmark test, but the real challenge is producing a fake OS version, which adds a little weight to this claim. Windows Phone is rumored to be announced in the next few weeks,¬†with the possibility of a fall release in mind. It’s no secret that Microsoft and Nokia have a close relationship, so the thought of the Finnish phone maker working on a device for the generation of Windows Phone isn’t too hard to believe.
