AT&T failed to purchase T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion. We know that, but partially expected that another firm would and scoop up T-Mobile USA. That won’t happen, Deutsche Telekom said. “A complete sale is unlikely,” the company’s CEO Rene Obermann said during a recent shareholders meeting. “We must find other ways to increase the return on our capital, or to reduce our capital investment. Obermann said his company is instead considering a merger. Earlier this month a rumor surfaced suggesting that Deutsche Telekom was interested in snapping up MetroPCS, but there’s also talk that a merger with Dish is possible. Both firms are working to build out 4G LTE networks, so it might make sense for them to joint forces and expand together. Deutsche Telekom isn’t the only one interested in partnering with Dish — AT&T recently sent a letter to the FCC that suggests it’s also interested in partnering or buying Dish.
