iPhone Thief Gets Plastered All Over Webs, Photo Stream to Blame

Here’s yet another example of why the non tech-savvy should never steal gadgets: A month after Katy McCaffrey’s iPhone was stolen on board the Disney Wonder cruise line last April, she began noticing weird pics in her Photo Stream. She started scanning the images for more clues, even posting the photos on her Facebook page in a new album titled “Stolen iPhone Adventures.”

Many of the pics show a cruise ship staffer named Nelson (according to his nametag). Our dear Katy got a little creative and started writing her own captions to go along with them: “This is Nelson. Nelson has my stolen iPhone.” “And here’s a beautiful sunset Nelson had time to capture, all on my stolen iPhone.”

McCaffrey contacted the Disney Cruise Line, sending them an account of what transpired along with the attached images. No word yet on how the company will respond, but it may have to at some point. As of yesterday, the album had been reposted upwards of 174 times, and it could go even more viral, with the story having been picked up by the likes of New York Magazine, NPR and other media and blogs.

Nelson, dude — you’re about to get owned.
