Earlier this month, a Sony representative confirmed to users on the Japanese company’s official forums confirmed that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for its new Xperia S handset would be available later this month. They also dismissed “speculation” that the software may not arrive until June or July.
But just six days later, Sony has now confirmed that the ICS update for the Xperia S won’t arrive until late next month after all. The rep now claims that release dates were mixed up with the 2011 Xperia handsets, which are due to get their update during the coming weeks, as planned:
“Xperia S will get it (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the latter part of Q2.
“The rest of the 2011 Xperias will get ICS during late May/early June. Which was the timing I mixed with the Xperia S timing”.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the ICS release date has slipped for the Xperia S. Sony originally promised that the update would be available back in April, around a month after its debut in Europe.
