Sony announced back in March that its Tablet S and Tablet P devices would receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update by the end of April, but nearly two months on the latter is still waiting. Sony has now confirmed that the dual-screen device will get its upgrade on May 24.
That’s nearly a whole month after the update made its way to the Tablet S, but at least users will only have to handle Honeycomb for another week. In addition to the core Ice Cream Sandwich features, the update will also bring some additional photography features, including direct access to the camera from the lock screen; and the ability to watch content recorded on a Sony Blu-ray player using a special app.
It was also bring Sony’s new ‘Small Apps’ multitasking feature, which allows you to open certain apps — like the calculator, a remote control or browser — over the top of running applications.
The Verge does note that the press release Sony issued today was for Japan, so it could be that international users are waiting a little while longer. However, with the Tablet S, the update rolled out to all users on the same day.
