Meebo Bar in ActionGoogle is reportedly on the cusp of acquiring social platform Meebo. Meebo, which has been on the scene since 2005 when it first launched a browser based IM program, has since dedicated its efforts to a number of other social products, including the Meebo Bar and a way for users to create an “interest profile” to get specific information “about the things that matter to you,” according to Meebo’s website. AllThingsD suggests the deal will go for $100 million when it’s approved, though neither Google or Meebo has commented on the rumor. Perhaps Google is looking to extrapolate Meebo’s social know-how so the Internet world is made more aware of Google +.
