The United States Department of Defense has officially approved six of Research In Motion’s BlackBerry 7 devices for use on its networks. The approval will allow members of the Defense Department, including members of the U.S. Army, to upgrade to RIM’s latest BlackBerry models. The DoD requires that each phone go through extensive testing before it gets the green light to be used by members of the DoD. The Defense Department currently has more than 250,000 BlackBerry devices deployed in the field, Reuters said, but also has to plans to launch Android-powered smartphones.
