In this weekly column, we’ll be selecting inexpensive, discarded titles from still playable consoles for your perusal. They may be games you’ve heard of and remember playing, or they may be games that have flown completely off of your radar. Just know that we love them and they’re available on the cheap. That’s a bonafide win/win situation.
If you have any favorite titles that you consider hidden gems, let us know in the comments below and we might feature your pick in the weekly column.
Original Release: 1993
Today’s edition of Hidden Gems brings about the world of Plok. This is an older 2D platformer from the age of the SNES. Players play as Plok, a character capable of winging his limbs at enemies, as he tries find his grandfather’s flag and rid the world of the Flea Queen.
Truth time… I actually found out about Plok way, way, way after the Super NES had already come and gone. My good friend Matt Green runs a blog called PressTheButtons.com. I was cruising through some of his older content a few years ago when I found a piece dedicated to the glory that was Plok.
I hunted a copy down on eBay and played it. It was brilliant.
If you have an SNES and some scratch to buy a used copy of Plok, do so. It’s one of the most unique platformers I’ve played.
