Google Play Surpasses 15 Billion Downloads

by Mark Hearn | May 8, 2012

Google Play

Google Play, formerly Android Market, has crossed the 15 billion download mark. Not making much of a fuss over this milestone, it’s suspected that the download took place sometime last month. Google announced 10 billion downloads back in December, with the search giant stating that they were seeing downloads increase by about a billion each month.

While 15 billion is nothing to sweep under the rug, Apple announced over 25 billion downloads served for its App Store back in March. While these two titans continue to duke it out, we’re still unsure what type of numbers wheels three (BlackBerry) and four (Windows Phone) of this mobile vehicle are touting in their respected marketplaces. However, it’s highly unlikely that they’re drawing anywhere close to the folks from Cupertino and Mountain View.
