The first batch of repaired Canon 5D Mark III cameras with the widely reported light leak issue have arrived, and been opened up. About a month after the 5D Mark III was released, Canon admitted to having a fault within the camera that lets light from the LCD screen affect automatic exposure readings in very dark environments, and offered to fix the cameras that were affected by the issue.
It turns out that Canon’s fix to the light leak issue was to cover the light coming from the top LCD panel with black electrical tape. Though the approach to the fix of the 5D Mark III has worried many, I can’t see what other option Canon would have taken to solve the issue. With that issue out of the way, Canon 5D Mark III users can stop with the worrying and start shooting.
