Like every other Angry Birds release to date, we expected Angry Birds Space to become a huge hit. In just 35 days after its release, the bird flinger was downloaded more than 50 million times, making it the fastest-growing mobile game of all time.
That 50 million figure combines downloads on the iPhone, iPad, Android– and BlackBerry-powered devices, and those made on Macs and Windows PCs. It adds to the 700 million downloads already achieved by the Angry Birds series before the latest title was released back on March 22. That’s pretty incredible, wouldn’t you say?
Rovio, the developers behind the game, took to their blog to announce the milestone, and to thank Angry Birds fans for making it all possible:
“This has been simply amazing, and the whole Rovio team is thrilled to see such a fantastic reception for the game.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to all fans of Angry Birds everywhere. While numbers like this certainly say something about the popularity ofAngry Birds, for us the main goal is to keep creating fun new experiences that everybody can enjoy.”
Last week, Angry Birds Space received its first update, which included a new episode called Fry Me To The Moon, which features ten new levels; in addition to 20 free Space Eagles for those playing on iOS devices.
