Samsung, Not Motorola, Allegedly Tapped To Build Next Nexus Phone

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Samsung is allegedly on deck to build Google’s next Nexus smartphone. The company was hired to build Google’s latest Galaxy Nexus device, which was the first to hit the market running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but it seemed apparent that Google might tap Motorola this time around since it’s currently in the process of acquiring Motorola Mobility.

DigiTimes said Wednesday that Samsung will continue to build Google’s flagship Android smartphone since the South Korea-based company has “control the supply of key components,” such as processors, flash and displays. DigiTimes isn’t always dead-on with its reports, however, so we’re taking this report with a grain of salt for now.

We’re expecting Google to unveil its next generation Android Jelly Bean Nexus device, and possibly a Nexus tablet, during the Google I/O developer conference, which kicks off on July 27th.
