ZTE is planning on releasing two phone/tablet hybrid (phablet) devices of its very own later this year. “We want to come up with the next generation of a Galaxy Note-type product – a combo product of handsets and tablets,” Lv Qianhao, ZTE’s head of handset strategy told reporters in Hong Kong recently. ZTE sold 15 million smartphones last year and hopes to ship 100 million by 2015.
As the Chinese smartphone manufacturer maps its plans for agressive growth, it also has plans to build on its Skate and Blade products, instead of developing entire new product lines. There’s no telling what type of hardware ZTE has planned for its phablet devices. However, Samsung managed to sell 5 million Galaxy Note units in just five months, so there definitely appears to be some type of consumer demand.
