Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight Now Shipping; Demand Tight

Nook GlowLight

Barnes & Noble began shipping the first batch of its new Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight eReaders on Tuesday. The company originally said the device would begin shipping in early May. You may want to place an order for the new eReader now if you’re hoping to get a unit before Mother’s Day, however, since units of the eReader are “limited” due to “very strong pre-order demand,” The Verge┬ásaid Tuesday.

We fell in love with the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight when we were able to get our hands on a unit earlier this month. The device offers a simple glowing backlight solution for night reading but is otherwise nearly identical (although slightly lighter) than the original Nook Simple Touch. The GlowLight technology is non-intrusive and didn’t hurt our eyes in the dark, unlike LCD options such as the iPad or the Kindle Fire.

We’ll be bringing you a review as soon as possible but we can guarantee anyone looking for an eReader with a backlight solution will fall instantly in love with Barnes & Noble’s solution. You can pre-order a unit for $139 directly from Barnes & Noble and the device should be available in stores sometime in May.
