If you’re a MobileMe subscriber who’s yet to make the switch to iCloud, then I must say, you’re missing out on some really terrific features — such as cloud-based backups for your iOS devices; contacts, calendar, bookmarks and notes syncing; Photo Stream, and more. But if you needed a little more encouragement, then how about a free copy of Snow Leopard?
In a bid to get more MobileMe customers switching before the service is terminated on June 30, Apple is offering customers who are still running OS X Leopard a free copy of Snow Leopard. However, there is a catch.
To take advantage of iCloud on your Mac, you’ll need to be running Apple’s latest operating system, OS X Lion. So even with your free copy of Snow Leopard, you can’t use iCloud. Instead, you’ll gain access to the Mac App Store where Lion can be purchased for $29.99.
Basically, without Snow Leopard, you can’t get Lion. So the free copy is really just as much of a push to purchase Lion than it is to switch to iCloud. But even so, if you’re still running OS X Leopard, it’s a great offer.
To obtain your free copy, all you need to do it is visit www.me.com/snow-leopard, login with your MobileMe account details, then fill out your shipping information and wait for your Snow Leopard DVD to arrive in the post. You have until June 15 to make your claim.
Will a free copy of Snow Leopard persuade you to switch to iCloud or upgrade to Lion?
