Everyone is excited about Samsung’s impending Galaxy S III announcement, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only phone in the manufacturer’s pipeline. PocketNow did some digging at the Bluetooth SIG’s site and uncovered details for a Samsung device labeled the SCH-I200. After locating the mysterious handset, the site was able to find a GLBenchmark posting for this device, which suggested that it’s bound for Verizon under the codename “Jasper.” In addition to carrier details, the benchmark also revealed several of the phone’s specs, including a 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, a WVGA (800 x 400) display and Android 4.0.
While Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 is showing up in top-shelf devices across almost every major U.S. carrier, such a low-end screen display offering makes us wonder exactly where this device will fit into Verizon’s catalog. As Android specs continue to beef up, perhaps Samsung’s Jasper will launch as a budget-friendly smartphone. We’ll continue to keep our ears to the ground to see exactly what Big Red has in store for this up and comer.
