Dishonored is the next major IP from Bethesda, the publishing company behind games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 3. This game features a steampunk vibe and a plot line that has you seeking revenge from behind a crazy mask.
Supposedly, the open nature of the combat in the title will play greatly into how missions evolve. So much so, as the trailer’s YouTube description indicates, that the way missions play out will hinge upon your decisions and tactics in battle. It sounds nice, but we’ve seen the “your decisions totally matter” song and dance during a game’s hype stage a lot this generation. We’ll reserve judgement until we see that facet of Dishonored in motion.
If the pedigree of Arkane Studios, the dev team behind this upcoming property, is of concern to you, then it’s time to take note. When Dishonored was first revealed by Game Informer nearly a year ago, they highlighted some of the key staffers working on the project. Here it is, from our post way back when:
Dishonored is the first title from Arkane since it was acquired by Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax in August of last year. Studio co-founder Raphael Colantonio is on board, as is Harvey Smith, one of the developers behind Deus Ex, and Viktor Antonov, the designer who created Half-Life 2‘s City 17.
Seeing the CGI put the game world in motion in the trailer above delivers a blend of Bethesda goodness, Half-Life 2, BioShock and Assassin’s Creed as far as I’m concerned.
What say you now that you’ve seen more than four minutes of cutscene for Dishonored?
