There are already several reports suggesting that Apple is planning to launch a new “iPad Mini” product at some point, possibly with a much smaller 7.85-inch display and a more affordable price tag. A Chinese web portal added to those rumors on Monday when it published a story that said Apple was planning to launch its iPad Mini during the third quarter of this year in an effort to attack Microsoft’s new Windows-powered tablets. The site, NetEase, also said Apple may price the device between $249 and $299 and that it will prepare 6 million units ahead of the launch. Earlier rumors have suggested that Apple has already placed orders for the new 7.85-inch displays, possibly made by Samsung, ahead of a possible holiday launch.
