Sleeping Dogs Due August 14th, Pre-Order Incentives Listed

This morning, Square Enix sent out a press release announcing that their upcoming title Sleeping Dogs will be available on August 14th. The press release also outlined incentive packs for pre-ordering the game at either Best Buy, Game Stop or Amazon.

All three retailers are offering different content for you with your pre-order, so choose wisely.

Best Buy’s Georges St. Pierre (GSP) Pack will include:

  • GSP’s signature “flying punch”
  • An exclusive GSP outfit including T-shirt, headband, and shorts
  • GSP’s outfit unlocks the “flying punch” and will increase grappling and throwing damage

Game Stop’s Police Protection pack will include:

  • An exclusive “High Speed” mission
  • An exclusive HK Police SWAT outfit
  • An exclusive assault rifle
  • An exclusive SWAT Police vehicle

Amazon’s Martial Arts pack will include:

  • The “Shaolin Showdown” mission
  • A Shaolin Warrior outfit (this will increase striking damage)
  • Bonus Triad XP points
  • Wing Chun decoration for your safehouse (with temporary combat buff)

As for the PC version of Sleeping Dogs, Square Enix says that it will get exclusive downloadable content to be announced at a later date.

These pre-order incentive packs do a good job of giving players the opportunity to choose their own unique experience with their new game. It’s always nice to see developers work along side retailers to give the community a little more bang for their buck. Marketing ploy or not, the consumer wins in this occurrence. (Editor’s Note: I totally disagree.)

We here at TechnoBuffalo are extremely excited for the launch of Sleeping Dogs. Our own Joey Davidson had a chance to play the title at the PAX East event last week, and he said that “Sleeping Dogs is like GTA IV meets Batman: Arkham City meets The Departed.” I don’t think it’s possible to go wrong anywhere within that combination.

If you’re interested, pick up your copy of Sleeping Dogs from either Best Buy, Game Stop, or Amazon and snag your pre-order goodies. You can expect to have the game on August 14th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
