Rockstar Games has released the second video in their Design and Technology series for Max Payne 3. This time around, they focus on showing off the “Bullet Time” gameplay feature that gives the series its unique and cinematic combat encounters.
The “Bullet Time” feature in Max Payne has always been an awesome way to engage players in combat, something that some shooters struggle to do. Like I said before, Rockstar has found a way to bring the players that level of engagement in a unique fashion. Based on this trailer, it seems that they have made this feature better than ever.
The video outlines how “Bullet Time” replenishes based on the risks you take, level of skill, and precision of shots. This seems like it will be the perfect example of the “easy to learn, difficult to master” cliche we often hear about in the video game world.
What “Bullet Time” adds to the game is the ability of players to have complete control of combat. Of course, it’s a bit unfair because none of your enemies get this awesome upper-hand… but hey, that’s why it eventually runs out!
This series is doing a great job of getting us excited for the release of Max Payne 3. It’s been far too long since we’ve been able to take out a slew of thugs in a swift, mid-air, slow motion cinematic experience.
If you’re interested in Rockstar’s Design and Technology series to show off Max Payne 3 we also did a story on the first addition to the series, Visual Effects and Cinematics.
If you’re as excited as us, you can pick up your copy for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 15th in North America and May 18th anywhere else. The PC version will be out on May 29th in North America and June 1st for the rest of the world.
