Google announced on Wednesday that its magazine-style mobile news application, Google Currents, has gone international. With the introduction of verizon 1.1 — which supports both Android and iOS — Google Currents now supports 38 different languages, offline reading, instant online sync and a promised 7x performance boost. The Flipboard competitor has only been around since last December, but it already has nearly 400 publisher editions and over 14,000 self-produced editions, Google said. The updated app will also give publishers control over which content is seen where (such as city-specific content), as well as the ability to enable auto-translation. Google Currents is available for free.
