You might be wondering when Sprint plans to take its new LTE network live, now that it has already announced its third 4G LTE smartphone. What if we were to tell you that some of the Now Network’s new 4G LTE setup has already been activated? The Wallstreet Journal cites that an unnamed spokeswoman for Sprint has advised that Sprint’s LTE network is currently live in Kankakee, Illinois, as well as in several other markets. The spokeswoman refused to reveal any additional locations by name.
Sprint’s LTE has been targeted for a mid-year release and the first markets include Dallas, Atlanta, Baltimore, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio. The entire deployment is expected to cost $4 to $5 billion and Sprint hopes to service approximately 120 million people by the end of the year. Sprint certainly has its its work cut out for it, however; the carrier will fight an uphill battle against Verizon and AT&T, which already offer 4G LTE networks.
