AT&T Reportedly Unlocking On-Contract iPhones for Deployed Service Members

AT&T is reportedly unlocking iPhones for deployed service members, even if they are still on an AT&T contract. The carrier recently began unlocking iPhones provided that the user had an account in good standing and had finished his or her contract obligations. An unlocked iPhone will allow a user to insert a SIM card from another carrier — whether it’s T-Mobile USA or a different carrier abroad. That would allow for overseas service members to take advantage of carriers that may offer cheaper rates, depending on where they are stationed. MacRumors confirmed the report with active duty soldiers and said that anyone interested should contact a local AT&T customer service representative. Are you deployed and on AT&T? Let us know if this works.
