Netflix Signs Multi-Year Deal with Hasbro. Autobots Roll Out!

Autobots roll out

Netflix and Hasbro have entered into a multi-year agreement that will see many fan favorite animate shows make their way to streaming video.

World-renowned toy maker Hasbro has signed a deal with Netflix that will see some of its most famous cartoon properties showing up on Watch Instantly over the course of the next year.  The current Transformers Prime and My Little Pony series are already available, but coming later in the year will be the hit series from the 1980’s such as Transformers generation one, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero and Jem and the Holograms.

Not surprisingly the streaming media company sees this as a way to bolster up the content of its kids’ programming section, but there is no doubt that it will also attract many folks in their 30’s and 40’s who want to watch them again out of nostalgia.

While this is interesting for fans of these properties, it’s also intriguing for those of us who follow the happenings in the realm of streaming media.  While we’ve seen Netflix signing deals  with movie studios left and right and producing its own content, but we haven’t seen them going after these sorts of deals.  If successful, this could set up a precedent for more future details where it goes after more older, but very popular, content.  Only time will tell if this is a new market for Netflix.

Until then, Autobots, roll out!
