During a recent podcast for The Talk Show, host John Gruber made the claim that Apple currently has a 7.85-inch iPad in its labs. Gruber stated that he was uncertain if the device would ever see a retail release, but also noted that Apple could possibly announce the new tablet as early as WWDC. There has been a lot speculation around a smaller, budget friendly iPad being introduced to compete with Amazon’s highly successful Kindle Fire; but, as it stands, those rumors have yet to materialize.
Apple may not be the only one dipping its toes into the seven-inch tablet arena. Several reports have suggested that Google will introduce a competitively priced “Nexus” tablet of its own later this year. Does the thought of a low-priced iPad sound like something you’d buy, or do you think that Apple should maintain Steve Jobs’ philosophy on avoiding the development of smaller tablets?
