Apple Files for New Notification Icon Patent

Notification center iconApple filed a new notification patent in Europe earlier this week that is designed to cover Mail, Calendar and SMS in a single icon. Presumably designed for iOS, the trademark application covers “computer software for the redirection of messages, Internet e-mail, and/or other data to one or more electronic handheld devices.” In addition, we could definitely see this making an appearance in the upcoming Mountain Lion, which introduces a new notification functionality to the desktop OS. The icon could act as a hub and translate between Apple’s product lineup, such as its iPad, iPhone, and iMac, etc. Perhaps this is a small glimpse at what we can expect when Apple announces iOS 6.
