RIM CEO: “Significant” Challenges Ahead, Partnerships, Licensing And Joint Ventures Possible

Research In Motion’s CEO said Thursday that he recognizes that RIM has “significant” business challenges that it will face over the next several quarters. While Thorsten and his firm are excited about the new BlackBerry 10 operating system, the company realizes that it may need to work with other firms in order to reverse track. Thorsten said that RIM is “undertaking a comprehensive review of strategic opportunities including partnerships and joint ventures, licensing, and other ways to leverage RIM’s assets and maximize value for our stakeholders.” Who will RIM partner with? We’ll have to wait and see, but companies such as Amazon don’t currently have their own intellectual property patents, so that’s a possible partner.
