Yesterday, HBO and Microsoft brought the HBO Go app to the Xbox 360. We did a video tour of the application in action (as you see above).
I’m a Comcast subscriber. I wanted to add HBO Go to my Xbox 360. You saw that happen in the video itself. You also saw that I had to go through DirecTV in order to get the application working for the purpose of the tour.
At the time, I assumed it was nothing more than lag between Comcast and the official launch of the application. I figured the company would get around to supporting HBO Go on the Xbox 360 within a few weeks time.
It turns out HBO Go on the Xbox 360 is not being supported by either Comcast or Time Warner. HBO released this statement towards the end of the business day yesterday:
We are encouraging HBO subscribers at non-participating television providers to reach out to their provider and request that they add support for HBO GO on Xbox.
It is HBO’s ongoing goal to provide our acclaimed programming to subscribers whenever and wherever they want it. We believe the launch of HBO GO on Xbox 360 is a huge step in accomplishing that and we are hopeful that all of our distributors will chose to support the service on the Xbox platform.
Say it with me now, “this stinks.”
HBO Go is a service that has brought me a lot of entertainment, both by way of my computer and my tablet. Having it on the Xbox 360 would be a great way to enjoy all the channel has to offer on my television. Instead? I’m a step behind with a company that claims to be on the cutting edge of in-home entertainment.
Are any of you herd members feeling the burn with either Comcast or Time Warner’s decision on this?
