Sources Claim Google Drive Launching in Early April

Google Drive LogoGoogle Drive’s oft-rumored and long awaited arrival may become a reality in early April, according to GigaOm’s “well placed sources.” Rumors of Google’s cloud service span all the way back to 2006, with mentions of the fabled online storage locker popping up as recently as February of this year. Apparently, GDrive will offer 1GB of storage space for free — one less than competitor DropBox — and will charge for more storage. The service will apparently also offer a local client with a Web interface that’s similar to Google Docs and, in addition, sources claim Google has developed an API for third party apps. Because of Google Drive’s history, GigaOm’s report says the service might launch, not that it’s 100 percent fact, so stay on your toes next week.
