Rovio launched Angry Birds Space late last week – the latest title in its hugely popular series of Angry Birds games — on Android, iOS, Mac, and PC. It couldn’t have been easy to reach four platforms within the space of 24 hours, but it was certainly worth the effort.
Rovio has confirmed in a message posted to Twitter that in less than three days of availability, the company has seen more than 10 million downloads:
10 million Angry Birds Space downloads in less than 3 days! Thanks to our fans, stay tuned for more! #angrybirdsspace
That’s roughly 28 copies sold per second. That’s a pretty incredible figure for a fairly simple game that has you destroying flimsy structures by firing birds from a catapult. But the latest release has lots of appeal thanks to its new features. It boasts a new physics engine that powers its zero-gravity environment, new birds, new superpowers, and new adventures.
Sales aren’t about to slow down, either, with Angry Birds Space making its way to Windows Phone soon.
Rovio’s chief marketing officer initially announced that the company had ‘no plans’ to bring the title to Microsoft’s platform, but its CEO later confirmed that it would. In a statement to Reuters, Mikael Hed said Rovio is “working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7.”
