Draw Something, the new game from OMGPOP, has enjoyed an explosion in popularity since its release. As of writing this story, both the premium and free versions sit either close to or in the top spot of both the App Store and Google Play marketplace. It’s doing well.
So well, in fact, that OMGPOP has supposedly earned around $17 million for the product. That number is tremendous, especially considering the fact that Draw Something, if we’re being honest, is a promising game that lacks a good deal of polish. The title is missing key features that other, similarly designed apps include: chats, archiving, better stats, scene skips, etc.
According to the fine folks at TechCrunch, Zynga is officially in talks with OMGPOP to buy them out. The writer of the story estimates that the price for the studio’s acquisition would check in at around $150-250 million.
TechCrunch supposedly has the rumor from a source close to the potential deal.
We assume that if Zynga is unsuccessful in buying OMGPOP up, the company will get its own stable of developers to create a game like Draw Something in order to snag market attention. They’ve done it before.
If more comes of this story, we’ll have it.
